After last month we brought you the first pictures of the third generation of the smart fortwo in production trim, now it's time to give you a second set of pictures with the pre-production model gunning like a (small) bat out of hell.
Caught by our spy photographers somewhere in South Europe, the tiny city car is still highly camouflaged and the interior trim hasn't even been put on yet as we can see from the naked part of the A-pillar inside.
The only design element we can see is the honeycomb grille in the much more upright front, which gives it a more consolidated appearance.
The wheel layout seems to have been stretched towards the fortwo's corners even more than on the first two generations, which should give the model more interior and luggage room, along with a more dynamic footprint on the road.
Engine-wise, an entire family of three-cylinder turbocharged and non-turbocharged versions of a 0.9-liter Renault engine are expected, with an electric engine to complete the range like the current generation.
