For almost four decades, Brabus has been one of the premier German tuning companies, specializing in extremely powerful versions of the specialized in Mercedes-Benz and Maybach models. In 1998, Daimler started the smart project together with Swatch and four years later, Brabus got in on the small car act as well, by offering both exclusivity and power.
The Mk3 version of the baby Brabus will be launched in 2015, 13 years after the original smart Brabus. You might think that the highly tuned city car is a nice model appealing only to a few hundred people every year. But because the project is backed by Daimler, sales of supped-up smarts have actually exceeded 50,000 units since launch (including the Roadster and forfour).

Based on an all-new platform co-developed with Renault, the 2015 smart fortwo by Brabus will be a special little machine. Featuring lower ride height, black alloy wheels and a sports exhaust, it will pack plenty of curb appeal. Power should come from a re-tuned version of Renault's turbo 0.9-liter engine, although a 1.2-liter turbo is also possible.

Crucially, handling will be much better than before. The new fortwo will be about the same length as before but the increase in width should help cornering stability. For the first time ever, the smallest of Brabus models will be available with a manual gearbox and even the automatic version promises to be much better, a dual clutch system having replaced the jerky automated manual system.

If the 0.9-liter turbo is used, output will be just 105 hp, but that's enough for a super-light automobile like this to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 9 seconds.

Performance isn't the only thing we look forward to. Brabus will also include a number of new accessories, a high-quality dyed through leather in which they specialize and alcantara trim. Though the "Tailor Made" program, you'll be able to order any exterior and interior color you desire, provided of course that you're willing to spend as much as €40,000 for a car with only two seats.
