There's no reason in the entire world that could possibly get you to paste a Smart Forfour over your desktop. It's small, it's girly and it has the personality of a unicorn. But we'll let you in on a little secret: the girls love it.

We recently tested the all-new Smart Forfour on the city streets, where it belongs. It was blue and black, which we mention because one very cute young lady stopped us to say that it looked like a Smurf. How often does that happen with a supercar like the Aventador?

If we haven't convinced you yet that city cars seem more approachable and funny, let's just mention that the Forfour is remarkably easy to drive around town. There's no spot too small to park in, no corner it can't take.

"Forfour? That sounds familiar, but I can't remember it," somebody said to us. That's because Smart hasn't made this car in 8 years. Last time, they partnered with Mitsubishi and made a front-wheel drive supermini. This 2015 model is rear-engined, which means it's unlike any other car in the segment.

Cargo space is a bit of a problem for this car because the engine eats into the boot floor. There's also no spare wheel, replaced by a tiny tire repair kit. So if the engine is at the back, right under the trunk, what's under the bonnet? Mostly nothing, but the very small area at the front is for the windshield and brake fluids, plus the battery.

To drive, the Forfour is nothing special. The 1-liter engine rattle into the cabin all the time and the 91 Nm of torque means you can't overtake anybody, even with the foot planted into the carpet. However, the Smart has a certain joie de vivre, a certain effervescent feel that's so lacking from the automotive segment.

Instead of a boring black interior like every German car has, you get bright white materials, a floating tablet for the dash and fabric that belongs in a fashion collection. The rev counter is optional and you don't care because the sun is shining and the birds are chirping. That's the sort of feeling we got during our 2015 Smart Forfour test drive.
