The Blue Oval made a curious announcement only recently: later this year, FoMoCo will build and deliver 100 units of the 2015 Shelby GT350 Mustang and 37 units of the R. You heard that right - 2015 model year. We’re not joking.
Various enthusiast forums were hinting towards limited numbers of the Shelby-ified S550 Mustang but as with every other rumor, there weren’t hard arguments to back the claim. Fortunately for GT350 prospective buyers, the Ford Motor Company confirmed this intel at long last.

The 2015 Shelby GT350 Mustang limited-run will be built to commemorate the nameplate’s 50th anniversary, with all 137 vehicles to bear “unique 2015 VIN.” Ford goes to such marketing talk lengths that it presents the latter fact as “the envy of Shelby enthusiasts everywhere.” Yawn...

Of the 100 examples, 50 units of the 2015 Shelby GT350 Mustang will come with the Technology pack. The other 50 will be enhanced by the Track Package. In the 2015 Shelby GT350R Mustang’s case, the 37-unit production run mirrors the two prototypes and 35 production models manufactured by Carroll Shelby’s outfit back in the ‘60s.

“Fans of the Shelby brand are among the most passionate in the automotive industry,” declared Henry Ford III, the marketing manager of Ford Performance. “To honor the passion of our fans for Shelby GT350’s 50th anniversary, a limited run of GT350 models will be built in 2015; these cars will be highly coveted by both Mustang and Shelby enthusiasts alike.”

Of course, all 2015 model year Shelby GT350 'Stangs will be animated by the flat-crank 5.2-liter Voodoo V8, a naturally aspirated engine heralded as the most powerful atmospheric eight-cylinder ever made by Ford.
