SEAT has shown an upgraded version of its Ibiza supermini during the 2015 Barcelona Motor Show. Cosmetically, the car looks almost the same, but the engine range has been comprehensively upgraded.
We don't have photos of the engines themselves, but we don't need them either, since every mill is already used by the Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia.
No performance figures are available at the moment, but we should expect 0 to 100 km/h in 15.5 seconds for the least powerful of the two. Interestingly, SEAT doesn't mention anything about the 1.2 TSI turbo engines, with 90 PS and 110 PS, which may have been discontinued, together with the Ibiza Cupra.
The least powerful version delivers 95 PS (70 KW) and 160 Nm of torque. There is also a 110 PS model with a whopping (for this class) 200 Nm of torque. The more powerful model is available with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox.
Nothing more powerful? It seems so, as the Cupra isn't mentioned anywhere. Instead, you can buy the 1.4 TSI with 150 PS and 250 Nm. It's not as fast, but it gets the job done.
Entry-level engines
Starting at the bottom, the old 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engines have been discontinued and replaced by the latest three-cylinder 1.0-liter. These are borrowed from the smaller SEAT Mii and make precisely the same 60 and 75 PS. 1.0 TSI 3-cylinder turbo
Another new engine is the 1.0 TSI turbo, the direct rival to Ford's 1-liter EcoBoost. Three 1.4 TDI engines
The diesel range for the Ibiza used to be split between the 1.2 TDI and the bigger, more powerful 1.6. However, all have been replaced by a new 1.4-liter. It's a brand new 3-cylinder unit that's available with 75 PS (55 kW), 90 PS (66 kW) and 105 PS (77 kW). Only the most powerful one gets the 7-speed DSG.Nothing more powerful?
