Measuring about the same as a now defunct Maybach 57, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class with extra-long wheelbase caught in the short video bellow is getting closer and closer to its actual release date, which we suspect might happen at the Paris Motor Show 2014 this fall.
We are not too sure about it, but from this footage we got this strange vibe that the S-Class XL might also be a bit taller than the “regular” Mercedes-Benz S-Class, with the larger wheelbase almost making it look like a slightly squashed Bentley State Limousine form the side.

Expected to fetch anywhere between EUR 200,000 and EUR 250,000 ($275,000 – $343,000) when it finally goes on sale, the elongated model will not only be a slightly smaller and the spiritual successor to the Maybach 62, but it might also carry the Maybach name.

This time, the Maybach nameplate will only be used as a trim level, if you like, with the even longer VV222 version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class to receive the coveted Pullman name.

Even though most reports are only talking about an S 600 X222 Maybach, a few months ago we also got the chance to spot a pre-production prototype which seemed to be a plug-in-hybrid, but nothing has been confirmed officially as of yet.

Expect the new model to go against the Rolls Royce Phantom and Bentley Mulsanne in terms of interior amenities, while its pricing will keep it closer to the smaller Ghost and Flying Spur models if Dieter Zetsche is to be believed.
