2015 S-Class Coupe (C217) Takes Center Stage in Geneva

Even though it wasn't the only European premiere from the three-pointed star, the 2015 S-Class Coupe (C217) is by far the most talked-about new model that Mercedes-Benz brought at this year's Geneva Motor Show.

Technically just a two-door version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class W222 sedan, its exterior look would suggest that this is an entirely new model that is way smaller in size.

That is partly true, as the S-Class Coupe is a bit shorter, lower and also has a shorter wheelbase than its sedan brother, but underneath that gorgeous sheet metal there are a lot of common parts, including engines and technology features.

The model's biggest attribute will most definitely be its looks, as we find the exterior design simply breathtaking if the right color has been chosen appropriately.

“The new S-Class Coupé stands at the very pinnacle of our product portfolio and is a further milestone in our luxury-class offensive with a total of six models in future instead of three,” says Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. “This car drives as good as it looks - and that’s no mean feat, because we’re talking here about the most beautiful S-Class of all time.

Its most interesting technology feature is the active curve tilting function of the Magic Body Control system, which allows the new S-Class Coupe (C217) to actually lean into a curve just like a motorcycle rider or a skier, thus providing its passengers with better comfort during cornering.

The optional embedding of each headlight with no less than 47 Swarovski crystals also dropped a lot of jaws at the model's unveil, some even going as far as saying that they are a bit tacky.

Nevertheless, there is no denying that the new S-Class Coupe is a pretty good standard of what Mercedes-Benz is all about, with even Dieter Zetsche acknowledging that the car is currently their flagship model in the range.
