When it was introduced in March 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show, the Renault Twingo sent a shockwave to the motoring media and auto enthusiasts alike. While the rear-engined and rear-wheel drive configuration is what makes this bugger thoroughly exciting, the third-generation Twingo’s specialness comes from the way customers can customize the quirky city car.
The French brother of the 2015 Smart ForFour is worth 10,990 euros in France if you go for the entry-level Life trim level. The intermediate grade is Zen, while the top-of-the-range model comes in the guise of the Intens.
At 13,400 euros, the 2015 Renault Twingo Intens is close to generously equipped Renault Clio territory, so what is one supposed to do in this situation?
If you can do without the space of the B-segment Clio, we recommend to consider the 2015 Renault Twingo Limited (12,200 euros). Despite the cheerful price, the Twingo in question is 200 euros cheaper than the Zen trim level yet packs a lot more equipment.
Highlights include 15-inch Vivastella two-tone black wheel trims, white exterior detailing with Stripping Way lateral decals, a cloth bag (???) and a central stowage compartment.
In terms of standard equipment, the limited edition of the Twingo boasts electric front windows and climate control. On the entertainment front, you’re offered with the Connect R&GO audio system. From our point of view, it’s worth paying a small premium to update to the Renault R-Link touchscreen with satellite navigation.
Engine-wise, there are four powertrain combos on offer: the 1-liter SCe 70 (71 horsepower) paired to a manual, a SCe 70 E6 (same powerplant, automatic tranny), the SCe 70 mill with Stop & Start technology, and 0.9-liter Energy TCe 90 with 90 HP and 135 Nm (100 lb-ft) on tap.
