Do you remember the awe-inspiring pocket rocket known as the Renault 5 Turbo? Yeah, that little bugger made in the first half of the 1980s, rear mid-engine and rear-wheel drive layout and all. It was and still is the definition of cheap and cheerful motoring for the spirited driver from Europe. If you want one minus the hideously bad reliability issues, we recommend the R5 Turbo’s spiritual successor.
The third-gen Renault Twingo boasts with the same RMR layout and a few R5-inspired touches here and there, so why take risks with an original R5 when you can enjoy its modern equivalent for less money and improved reliability? Priced at £12,545, the Twingo we’re covering today is the most ritzy model of all.

What Renault UK calls the Dynamique S is a city car that doesn’t only come with a four-year plus warranty and assistance package, but a lifestyle-oriented machine that shares its skeleton with the Smart ForFour. It may sound funny, but what you’re looking at is basically the Smart ForFour sans its wacky body and cabin.

Available in Crystal White, Diamond Black or Flame Red, with first deliveries expected in April 2015, the all-new Twingo Dynamique S is beautified by 16-inch alloys, matte black decals and red detailing for the exterior, as well as an aluminum pedal box and red & black part leather upholstery inside. This ain’t a hot hatchback by definition, but the French city dweller can’t be called as slow as a snail either.

Powered by Renault’s proven 0.9-liter TCe turbocharged three-pot engine, the rear-wheel drive Renault Twingo Dynamique S model is rated 90 horsepower and 135 Nm, enough for a 62 mph (100 km/h) run of 10.8 seconds and a top speed of 103 mph (165 km/h).

Not fast all things considered, but thanks to its low curb weight and RWD architecture, this Twingo is a recipe for fun behind the wheel. Oh, and with an official 65.7 UK mpg (4.3 liters per 100 km), the most upmarket Renault Twingo yet is also extremely economical.
