2015 Renault Kadjar Revealed With Fresh Looks and LED Headlights

Renault has finally revealed its all-new C-segment crossover for the global market. Called the Kadjar, this sexy-looking model is the twin sister of the Nissan Qashqai and will offer more space and practicality than the B-segment Captur crossover.

If the red body of this offroader looks a bit small, that's because at 4.45 meters long, it's only the size of a Mazda3 hatchback. Renault hopes this will give it easy maneuverability in town, which is what most buyers actually want these days. At exactly 1.6 meters tall, it's 10 centimeters or 4 inches taller than the average Renault Megane Estate, so it should be easier to get in and out of, plus headroom is better. Think of this as an MPV on Red Bull rather than a real 4x4.

Built on the same CMF platform as the Pulsar, Qashqai and X-Trail, it should also be quite light and efficient.

Though no engine details were provided, we expect familiar 1.2 TCe, 1.6 TCe, 1.5 dCi and 1.6 dCi units will be offered. Both 2WD and 4WD models will be offered, Renault says, likely using setups similar to Nissan's, where only higher-torque engines are allowed to send power to the back. The tech details will be announced next month at the Geneva Motor Show, when Renault is likely to begin takin orders.

As far as the looks are concerned, the Kadjar is like a predictable cross between the Captur and the Espace. The most distinctive feature are the full-LED headlights, which have a compact, tapered shape that connects into the wide Renault grille and logo. Just like on the Captur, the bonnet is very well defined, as are the rear "shoulders" over the wheels, a feature first seen on the Clio 4.

Inside, the Kadjar does a great job of hiding its non-premium upbringing. Some of the buttons are borrowed from other models, but there are some distinct features, like the Porsche Cayenne like grab handle on the lower dash and the digital speedometer. With leather seats and a sober black interior, this model is in total contrast to all of the other recent Renault, which use bright colors and lots of personalization options.

Initially expected to launch in Europe and a couple of Northern African markets in the second half of 2015, the Kadjar is also going to be the first Renault model to be manufactured in China. For Europe, production will take place at Palencia, Spain, the same factory that makes the whole Megane model range.
