Forget the Range Rover Sport Stealth Pack that will debut this weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Land Rover has something bigger and badder to unveil this weekend.
The oft-rumored, high-performance version of the Range Rover Sport will finally make its big debut… albeit as a camouflaged prototype.

Created by the newly formed Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations, the Range Rover Sport SVR will pack quite a punch with an output of 550 hp, which is a considerable upgrade over the 510-hp Range Rover Sport Supercharged that currently exists. With its current supercharged V-8, the Range Rover Sport can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just five seconds, so the extra power and tuning should help the SVR hit the same speed at a much quicker pace.

With these types of numbers, the Range Rover Sport SVR is positioned squarely against performance SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and the BMW X6 M.

Land Rover hasn’t divulged any other details about this new model, but it did confirm that the Range Rover Sport SVR is still going through testing and will go into production sometime next year. Based on images of Land Rover released of the thinly veiled prototype, the Range Rover Sport SVR will feature a more aggressive front fascia with massive air intake openings, which will be complemented by an equally sporty rear fascia with a quartet of exhaust outlets poking through.

Slightly harder to tell from these images, but it also looks like the SVR model will get a larger vent in the front fenders, a wider track and bigger wheels with a split-spoke design.

Interestingly, Land Rover also says that the SVR moniker will be adorned by all future high-performance models (for both Jaguar and Land Rover), which most likely leaves the door open for a sportier version of the Range Rover Evoque.

The Range Rover Sport SVR will compete in the Goodwood hill climb in the “First Glance” category, which should be entertaining based on the teaser video that was also released. This short video is posted below, and gives us our first look at the SVR as it undergoes testing at the famed Nürburgring.
