Constantly updating the 911 with new tech and variants has always been the Porsche way. After the basic Carrera and Carrera S, came the 4 and 4S, lots of convertibles, the GT3 and recently the Turbo and Turbo S. All these cars give rich folks reasons to trade in their old 997.
We think the best reason to buy a new Porsche in 2014 is this car, the Targa. It will most likely be available mid-year after a Detroit Auto Show debut. We've seen the new 911 Targa in leaked patent images late last week and now we can take a better look at the car, thanks to a rendering by X-Tomi Design.
What's really cool about the Targa is that its roof blends tradition with modern technology. Supposedly, a trick automated system folds the roof and places it over the engine bay. In all honesty, we can't imagine how that will work on this car, but we're really excited to find out. Considering the roof probably costs as much as a whole normal car, Porsche has plenty of room to do what it does best: over-engineer stuff.
