If you were to boil down the design of new German vehicles’ into a single 20th century German artist, that person would be Arno Breker without a shadow of doubt. Breker was dubbed “Germany’s Michelangelo” at a certain moment, but how does his style correlate with the Peugeot 308 we tested?

An avid fan of anatomy, stone-carving and the intricate world of architecture, his best-known pieces depict a Decathlete (Zehnkämpfer) and an Olympic victress (Die Siegerin). Apparently simple in terms of detail, the two neoclassical sculptures have two things in common with the design of the second-generation Peugeot 308: they aren’t laden with useless knickknacks and they embody the elegance of an athletic constitution.

The German visual trait can be spotted on the inside as well, but you know what? There’s a bit of Claude Monet in there as well. It couldn’t have been possible otherwise because this is the Lion of Sochaux’s main weapon in the C-segment, the reason why designers weren’t allowed to de-Frenchify the chic hatchback.

If you concentrate a little, you’ll spot a number of interior design cues inspired by the Paris-based impressionism movement. Compared to a VW’s infotainment system, the 9.7-inch unit of the 308 features more than three colors for each and every one of its menus. To boot, the graphics are emphasized with rich chromatic contrasts, another element of the impressionism movement.

Phew, that’s about enough with artsy-fartsy talk. Or is it? If you look at a close-up of the steering wheel, you’ll spot that there are only two buttons and two scroll wheels for you to play with. Call it minimalist or whatever, the fact of the matter is that an uncluttered design is worthy of praise. For crying out loud, a 2015 Ford Focus facelift has a steering wheel that’s laden with 16 buttons, which is just too much.

With these being said, our six HD wallpapers snippet of the 2015 Peugeot 308’s aesthetics may be not enough for those of you that want to admire every line and texture of the second-generation 308. Fret not though because our newest review’s photo gallery has 46 more high-definition pics for your indulgence.
