After yesterday leaked images, Peugeot has officially revealed the mid-life facelift for its 208 supermini, announcing that it will bow in Geneva as well.
The changes are small from a cosmetic point of view, but the French company has ensured there's more space for customization than pretty much any other car in the segment. As if the existing 6 trim levels weren't enough, a few more have been added, including the GT Line trim level that includes gloss black grille, special 17-inch allow wheels, chrome window surrounds and exhaust tailpipe, half leather sports seats in black-red and leather steering wheels.
What's more, the GTi 30th Anniversary model is now part of the regular GTi range… because you can't be 30 forever. The hot model is now called GTi by PEUGEOT Sport version and has kept is awesome twin-color paintjob, wider tracks, limited slip diff and 208 horsepower 1.6-liter engine.
Speaking of engine, Peugeot says the range now includes 11 of them, but they're not really that many. For example, the 1.2-liter PureTech with 82 PS has an eco version that emits 99 g/km, a regular version and one with start&stop and a robotized 5-speed auto.
But there are a few brand new mills as well. For example, the old 1.6 VTi with 120 PS has been replaced by the 1.2-liter turbo with 110 PS, which is also available with the EAT6 6-speed automatic from the 308. It's a good combo, and so is the new 165 PS version of the 1.6 THP, which we've always been fans of.
As for the diesel range, it's now made complete out of 1.6-liter engines, as the base 68 PS 1.4 HDI has been replaced by a 75 PS base model. There's also a 100 PS model and a 120 PS one that's fitted as standard with a 6-speed manual.
On the technology side, the Peugeot 208 now boasts a Lidar sensor at the top of the windshield that can can detect other vehicles driving in the same direction and automatically brake the car if a collision is imminent. A reversing camera is also available in addition to the existing Park Assist system.
The 7-inch infotainment touchscreen has been updated and now features Apple's Carplay and a MirrorScreen system that makes it possible to show what's on the screen of a smartphone on the vehicle’s display.
