2015 Opel Astra Upsets the Luxury Class in New Commercial

Say what you want about Opel's car lineup - by the way, starting with the new Corsa and the new Astra they improved a lot - but they sure know how to promote their merchandise.

If our memory is not mistaken, last year during the Paris Motor Show, Opel basically occupied a square in Paris with a sole purpose: to introduce the new Opel Corsa.

But we're here to talk about Corsa's bigger sister, the 2015 Astra hatchback, which will take a bow in Frankfurt next week.

Recently, Opel's new Golf and Focus fighter was given the lead role in a commercial where it jumps over a number of premium models, a hint at the new model's amenities considered by Opel to be close to premium standard.

Now, we wouldn't go as far as saying that, but since we had a close encounter with the new 2015 Opel Astra two weeks ago, we can confirm the hatchback's interior looks way better compared to the model it replaces, both in design and material quality terms.

Coming back to the video in question, it looks like Opel decided to go for a fancy fashion-parade-like setting, but the 2015 Astra had other plans. That is, to jump over (literally) a few representative models from the premium segment, namely the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, all wearing their sober black clothing.

So, is the new Astra capable of upsetting the luxury class? Well, not really, but you'll have to consider the fact that it wasn't built to perform in this niche. However, as we were telling you earlier, the improvements made by Opel are notable and more significant, visible. That being said, we can't wait to take the car for a spin and see if the Germans rewarded it with improved dynamic capabilities, which we hope they did.
