Slated to enter production by midyear at the British based Ellesmere Port assembly plant, the all-new Opel / Vauxhall Astra has been spied again. On this occasion, the C-segment family hatchback shows us the design of its LED-accented lights all around.
As you can see in the photo gallery below, up front the 2015 Opel Astra K is adorned with current-gen Insignia-inspired headlight clusters. The dominant visual feature of the units are the L-shaped daytime running lights, resembling a pair of LED eyebrows.

The meeting point of the bonnet line and bumper is also an aesthetic treat that’s hiking the appeal of the K over the gray-haired J-gen Astra. As for the upper and lower radiator grilles, black cladding obscures the grille’s overall shape and chicken wire’s pattern.

Moving on to the rear of the 2015 Opel Astra K, it’s not that out of place to state that the Russelsheim model’s design team peeked a little at the Typ 5F Seat Leon and its appealing LED taillights. Similar to the design language of the front lighting system, the taillights form an L to stand out from the crowd.

Underpinned by the same D2XX platform that acts as the skeleton of the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze and the 2016 Chevrolet Volt, we have a curiosity about this architecture and the German hatchback. The Chinese variant of the Cruze weighs 2,866 lbs (1,300 kg) and the lightest tips the scales at 2,634 lbs (1,195 kilos).

Alas, the spectrum-wide weight advantage over the former generation Cruze stands at 276 pounds (125 kg) or 132 pounds (60 kilograms) for the lightest of variants. If the D2XX-based 2015 Opel Astra K hatchback can pull a similar diet, do expect a better handling family car than the outgoing generation.
