The C-segment is as competitive as the crossover niche these days, and it really takes something special to succeed and steal customer’s hearts. The 2015 Nissan Pulsar just entered the market and comes with a really great deal for those not needing thrills behind the wheel.

Although the Pulsar name came by when Nissan was known as Datsun, the nameplate now adorns a compact hatchback made to replace the defunct Almera in Europe. There’s still some of the old spice left in its DNA, but the Pulsar is heavily influenced now by the Qashqai crossover.

Squint a bit and you’ll see the Quash’s silhouette from every angle, but rolling on a lower suspension and having a slightly longer wheelbase. The elongation is almost unseen from the outside, but the effect can be really felt throughout the whole cabin.

Speaking of which, the 2015 Pulsar has the roomiest interior in its class, offering 692 mm (27.2 inches) in legroom for the rear passengers and 385 liters (13.6 cu-ft) of luggage space. More than enough for your average 4-member family and their luggage.

Despite having a bit of a grinning face, like most of the cars today, the Pulsar is quite tamed. Its main powertrains are a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine making 115 hp and 165 Nm (122lb-ft) as well as a 1.5-liter oil burner generating 110 hp and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft). And, depending on market, you can also tick the box for a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol unit that provides 190 hp and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft).

With that in mind, sportiness is not what defines the car. However, combined with the rest of the features it offers, the 2015 Nissan Pulsar is a choice you can’t ignore. Make sure you read all about it in our full review here.
