Not too long ago we were telling you that BMW’s line-up will get new prices starting with 2015, as is the case every year. Well, within that list you couldn’t find the i3 that was somehow kept away from prying eyes. However, that doesn’t mean that the EV escaped from getting its price increased and today we’re telling you exactly how much more you need to pay.
The starting price for the 2015 Model Year BMW i3 is $42,400 MSRP. To that you’ll also have to add the new destination and handling tax that’s $950 bucks, getting the grand total up to $43,350. That’s a total $1,075 price increase if you bare in mind the fact that the destination and handling tax was also bumped up by $25.

Just like it was the case on all the other models, the increase does also include new standard kit. For 2015 the i3 will have amenities like the DC Fast Charging capability, satellite radio and heated seats as standard, a most welcome move if you ask me.

As for the range extended model, it will also get the same price increase as the pure-EV one, the customers having to shell out $47,200 now for it, including the $950 destination and handling tax. Of course, the same added kit will be included for the REx as well for those extra bucks.

Other changes are likely to include a new software for US-bound cars that would introduce more functions to the EV, according to Green Car Reports. This will include allowing the drivers to manually switch on the generator on the REx models when the charge level goes under 75 percent.

This option has been available in Europe since the car was put up for sale but for some reason never made it to the US models as well. Other than that, nothing major will change.

The i3 will still be fitted with the 170 HP electric motor that develops 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of instant torque and will still be up for government grant, especially in full EV guise.
