Just like his bigger brother, the Countryman, the MINI Paceman will be at the receiving end of a mild update this summer, an update meant to make it more competitive in its segment.
So, what’s new? Well, the biggest news is the uprated 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine on the Cooper S models that is now on par with the 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged unit on the 2014 hardtop model, making 192 PS and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque, going up to 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque with overboost.
Unfortunately, all the other engine variants remain the same, the only notable difference being that despite keeping their horsepower and torque numbers intact they are now EU6 compliant, their CO2 emissions going down a bit.
As for the styling changes, you’d really have to focus to see them, or read the official press release BMW issued. Just like on the Countryman, the front fascia received a new hexagonal radiator grill contour. You can also get a new color for the exterior called Piano Black while new standard and optional light alloy wheels with reduced weight and less drag are now available.
Inside, you now get dark dials for the speedometer and rev counter, similar to the ones found on John Cooper Works models. The ventilation controls are from now on circled off by chromed elements and the MINI Center Rail storage system is standard as well as sport seats up front. In the back, the rear seatbacks can be folded now, expanding the luggage compartment volume from 330 liters to 1,080 liters.
Extra optional features are now available in an even wider selection, including LED fog lamps, daytime running lights, adaptive turning light, comfort access and many others, amongst which the John Cooper Works bits stand out the most.
