Sports Activity Coupes (SUCs) are big business right now. Following an initial barrage of criticism from car reviewers, BMW's X6 actually sold quite well and now other automakers are getting in on the act. After showing us a cool concept of a ML-Class coupe earlier this year, Mercedes are inching closer to the launch of their very own SUC, capture on video by a
Initially presumed to be called the MLC, this new Mercedes model is now rumored to be called the ML Coupe or M-Class Coupe. This move would make a lot of sense, since the Germans have recently replaced the CL-Class coupe with a new car called the S-Class Coupe.

Regardless of what we call it, the SUV-coupe will have a simple job: take on the BMW X6, a new generation of which has just been revealed. An engine range made up exclusively of turbocharged units will be introduced, together with the long-awaited 9G-Tronic gearbox. There will also be an AMG version, probably powered by the same 5.5-liter twin-turbo as the ML 63.

Mercedes has an excellent hold on good design and this will show with the ML Coupe. Sharp lines for the lighting systems and a bulging grille will give it a sportier and yet more elegant look than all its SUV cousins.

This is just one of many new SUVs coming from Mercedes in the next couple of years. Based on the same platform as the new C-Class sedan, the GLK compact SUV will arrive next year and might also have a coupe version. A facelift for the X5-rivaling ML-Class is also in the pipeline.
