2015 Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake (X117) Pushed Hard at Nurburgring

From recent reports, we know that this sexy estate will go on sale in 2015, probably in the early part of the year. The prototype looks to be in an advanced state of development and it's amazing to see just how hard they are willing to push it. Most buyers will demand nothing more than spirited overtaking on the highway from the CLA with a big boot, but Mercedes will still ensure it's worthy of the badge.

It's clear that the CLA has a strong motor under its bonnet, pushing and pulling it along the many corners of the 'Ring. But it's not an AMG model because the bumpers and exhaust aren't right. Judging from its planted stance, it's one of the 4Matic models, either the 211 hp 250 with 2-liter petrol or the 220 CDI with a 170 hp 2.2-liter turbodiesel.

Codenamed X117, the CLA Shooting Brake is not just a shrunken version of the equivalent CLS model. Based on the modular MQB platform, it could very well be one the most practical cars in the premium compact class.

Its engine range will come to include anything from a Renault-sourced 1.5-liter diesel to a to the bonkers two-liter turbocharged four-pot for the AMG variant, pushing out 360 hp (355 bhp) and 450 Nm (332 lb ft) of torque to all four wheels.
