Mercedes-Benz USA has just announced the new C-Class sedan will be joining the GLA crossover as an all-new model hitting showrooms this fall. Initial pricing information has been released, sketching in a small 3-model initial range. The cheapest model you can get is the C 300, which retails for $38,400 plus $925 for destination and handling.
That makes the C-Class about $8,500 more expensive than the CLA 250 currently the cheapest Mercedes you can buy. The two cars actually share their 2-liter engine, though the newer C 300 model comes with a power update to 241-hp and 273 lb-ft (US market ratings).
The C 300 is a direct rival to BMW's 328i version of the 3 Series, which is powered by a 2-liter turbo making 240 hp. This costs just $37,400, undercutting the new C-Class by $1,000, but that's to be expected with a brand new car.
Interested? Even if you are, Mercedes won't let you have the C 300 until the first quarter of 2015. Until then, the C300 4Matic will be offered for $40,400 plus destination and arriving at dealerships nationwide on August 25.
Also available at launch will be a C400 4Matic, powered by a new twin-turbo 3-liter V6 engine and offered with standard all-wheel drive. It's the same engine that replaced offered in the base E-Class and has more power and torque than the old 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6. It's good for 329 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque and will serve as flagship in the range until the arrival of the C 450 Sport and C 63 AMG towards the end of 2015.
