As the Mercedes-Benz ML Coupe is approaching its unveiling point, which should arrive later this year or in early 2015, the engineers are working overtime to complete the development process. We’ve recently spotted the prototype being manhandled on the Nurburgring, as you can see in the footage below.
By the way, the car the ML Coupe is targeting most, namely the second-gen BMW X6, is already online and will hit the market in December.

The heavy camouflage still prevents us from seeing the exact manner in which the roofline flows towards the rear of the car, but we expect this to follow the... provocative styling of the Mercedes Concept Coupe SUV that bowed at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show.

As for the tech side, the vehicle, which used to be called MLC, will borrow the ML’s engine range, which should mean that, at the top, the vehicle will be gifted with Affalterbach’s 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8, which could climb to 558 hp and 758 Nm (560 lb-ft) of torque. We are of course talking about the 63 AMG version, but the car will, most likely, also get an incarnation placed in between this and the normal models, as part of Mercedes-Benz’s new AMG Sport scheme.

Over in Europe, the oil burners will once again dominate the scene, with most of the buyers expected to choose between the 250 BlueTec and the 350 BlueTec - the first is a 2.2-liter four-cylinder, while the latter takes the car higher on the premium ladder, as we are dealing with a six-cylinder 3,0-liter mill.

Those mixing a lust for coupe-ized SUVs and green motoring shouldn’t be worried - there will also be a plug-in hybrid version.

Just like the X6, which is produced at BMW’s US site in Spartanburg, the ML Coupe will come to the world on American soil, via Mercedes-Benz’ Tuscaloosa plant in Alabama.
