If you’re in the market for a compact luxury crossover SUV like the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class facelift, I can feel your pain. It’s such a tough job to choose from the most extensive array of such machines ever, most buyers stop comparing specifications on paper and concentrate on more subjective matters.
How nice it looks, what Hollywood star drives one, how good it is off the beaten track, what kind of technology is offered as standard, you name it, these are the things people take note of before dropping a deposit on a compact luxury crossover SUV.

After testing pretty much everything this ultra-competitive segment has to offer, autoevolution came to a rather interesting verdict: the GLK is the best thing out there after the Range Rover Evoque and that’s very high praise for a vehicle that’s been in production for 7 years now. Our test vehicle’s 2.1-liter turbo diesel four-banger with 170 HP isn’t an ode to smoking rubber and quarter mile drag races, but we found out that this oil burner is pretty dependable.

What surprised us even more is that the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK 220 CDI 4Matic BlueEFFICIENCY’s roadholding doesn’t reflect the model honorable age. In fact, the GLK is a very mature-handling crossover, including the suspension setup and the steering wheel’s feel. What’s even more surprising is how the GLK-Class facelift can hold its own in not-so-hard offroading situations, without missing a beat.

Naturally, no car is perfect and the GLK-Class is no exception to that rule. The basic models, which feature rear-wheel drive and a manual transmission, shouldn’t have existed in the first place, the sat nav is MS-DOS-like, while some plastic trim inside reminds you of cabin materials of the late Noughties.
