As much as we avoid using clichés in our writing, the 'baby S-Class' tag for the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is already out there, so we might as well accept it and learn to live with it. Call it spoiled for being the S-Class' little brother, but it never became complacent.
They say competition is a key to progress, and Mercedes will want to thank BMW and their 3 Series for providing serious challenges for the C-Class. But characters are built under pressure, and the 2015 C-Class did an impressive job to refine its personality. More than that, the techology hiding underneath that good-looking shell is a pertinent example of how far the automotive world has travelled in terms of gadgets.
Maybe the outside looks are what made the public call the new C-Class a baby S-Class, but the sedan is not taking such praise for granted. It can't afford that. Otherwise, rivals would leave it eating dust when yearly sales reports come in.
The model's drag coefficient is measured at 0.24, which says a lot about Mercedes-Benz's ambitions. Speaking of which, we should mention a thing or two about the interior. Despite lacking some headroom at the back - but just for those over 6 feet (1.85 m), the C-Class' cabin is more than able to provide a comfortable and enjoyable ride.
However, it's the overall interior design and appearance that genuinely catch the eye. Maybe the piano black plastic is not as desirable as it might look on a VW Passat, but the exquisite shape and the quality materials used to create the cabin make up for it in style. It is also remarkably quiet, and you do know where that feature came from, right?
All in all, the 2015 C-Class does a tremendous job in maintaining a premium around it, and designers should be praised for that over and over again.
