2015 Lexus RC, RC F Tested

Never before has a company tried to inject more passion and excitement into its portfolio than what Lexus is doing right now. The company that used to be known for its softly sprung sedans with creamy smooth engines is waging all-out war with the German premium lineups. Is it working? Oh yes. Starting with the all-new GS, the models recently launched have brought brand new customers to Lexus showrooms.

At a glance, the RC coupe is their best work yet. Remember the awesome LF-LC concept from a few years back? Somehow, designers have been allowed to make an almost undiluted version of that for us to buy and we really stood in awe of that fact when we first laid eyes on the coup'.

Some people really will buy it just because of the unique look and it certainly has the potential to make them very happy. Lexus is a little off the pace of its German rivals in terms of powertains, but not everybody wants a tri-turbo car with all-wheel drive. Is the RC fun? That kind of depends on your definition of fun… really.

Manga Comic Looks

While the exterior is as fresh as the space cruisers from Guardians of the Galaxy the interior is a classic Panasonic stereo. All the buttons are square, simple, almost basic. This is where Lexus shows its traditional nature and ensures any current owner trading into the newer model will feel right at home.

The Japanese are notorious for doing things differently. They serve their food raw, eat it with sticks and wash it down using rice alcohol. Somehow, we've come not only to accept their way, but also adopt it on mass in west.

The RC F, which is a rival to BMW's brand new M4 coupe, also things totally differently. While the Germans are using turbos, Lexus stuck with the raw V8 formula. Has it worked? Will the RC F be the next sushi+wasabi+sake? That's for us to know and for you to find out in our in-depth review of the RC 350 F Sport and RC F.
