The Discovery Sport is in for a treat from Land Rover as the compact premium SUV earns the company's new Ingenium 2.0-liter diesel powerplant.
Buyers can have the engine in two versions - one packing 150 HP and 380 Nm of torque and a beefier one, delivering 180 HP and 430 Nm of torque, the same motors available for the Range Rover Evoque facelift.

Land Rover invested a lot in coming up with a set of mills that strike a good balance between performance and fuel economy. Therefore, the new aluminum TD4 engine features lightweight construction, with stiff cylinder blocks and decoupled injectors, for low levels of vibration and better noise cancelation. Also, efficiency figures announced by the Brits reflect that.

In its 150 HP pretense, the 2.0-liter diesel returns 57.7 mpg (4.9/100 km) combined while the 180 HP derivative will drink around 53.3 mpg (5.2 l/100 km).

Moreover, the 150 HP version is available exclusively in a duet with a six-speed manual gearbox while the 180 HP variant can be mated to either the same six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission.

“Land Rover’s new family of Ingenium engines is truly class leading. By introducing it to the Discovery Sport, we can now offer enhanced fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions, while improving overall performance. The Ingenium engine confirms Discovery Sport’s position as the most versatile and capable compact premium SUV in the world,” said Murray Dietsch, Director of Land Rover Programmes.

Officials say that the price-tag for the Ingenium-powered Discovery Sport will not suffer changes, but the new TD4 150 HP banger will feature a lower sticker of £30,695 ($46,577/€42,829 at current exchange rates) for the manual five-seat ‘SE’ trim.

Following a hefty investment in a new Engine Manufacturing Centre in the United Kingdom, Land Rover is capable of producing 450,000 Ingenium units per year expected to power the Jaguar XE and the upcoming F-Pace SUV.
