After the new, “touring version” of the KTM 1190 Adventure on which the world got out in early June, the rumored more powerful trim for the Austrian flagship bike finally shows up. The most important upgrade is obviously the fact the guys in Mattighofen decided to use the new power unit of the 1290 Super Duke R… hence the Super Adventure moniker.
So far there’s no info on the state of the engine, so we cannot tell whether KTM left it untouched and only changed the transmission or it was tweaked to suit the adventure purpose better. We kind of believe that the 180hp mill was tamed a bit, favoring better torque deployment in the lower revs. Either way, we know that the engine of the Super Duke R has more power and torque than we’d ever use, even though this might not sound exactly reassuring for certain, more “peaceful” riders.
The fairing has been revised to accommodate the new engine, seemingly with larger air vents and a redesigned front cowl. It’s really sweet to see that KTM understood the need to equip its go-anywhere bikes with wire spoked wheels, providing solid dependability on rough roads and beyond the point where asphalt ends.
We can also see that KTM added generously-sized hard cases to the bike, even though we expect them to be offered as an option in the production model. However, ABS, the Motorcycle Stability Control and traction control are expected to be stock trim for the new beast.

Anyway, the idea of off-roading aboard an 180hp bike sounds a bit ridiculous, though installing some knobbies could transform the ride into a very fun one. Since it looks like the 1290 Super Adventure is ready for production, we can safely presume it will be introduced at the Intermot in early October or at the EICMA, in early November, with the bike becoming available early in 2015.
