It’s been just over a week since we introduced the first details of KTM’s new adventure machine, but today, the Austrian manufacturer has finally decided to shed more light in the matter. We’ve got the first official photo of the 1290 Super Adventure beast, as well as some more interesting details.
From our first article on the bike, you learned that the bike was powered by the same mill which brings life to the fearsome 1290 Super Duke R. KTM still hasn’t made any clear figures public, so there’s yet no telling whether the engine was tweaked and in which way. It’s probably safe to assume that the transmission was re-geared to provide better control in the lower revs.

On the upgraded fuel tank, KTM just says that it is “incredibly large”. While better range is obviously a good thing, it’s interesting to see how will the new tank influence weight and whether the 1290 Super Adventure will be able to at least threaten the superior fuel economy of its R1200GS rival.

The fact that the bike is even more loaded with electronic systems could sound thrilling for some riders, certainly, though this is definitely not a rule of thumb. The 1290 Super Adventure will be equipped with the Motorcycle Stability Control (MSC) system developed with Bosch, ABS and traction control, “with a range of selectable presets as to not remove any riding enjoyment…. (an) absolutely unique electronically supported riding assistance equipment.” To me this sounds boring, but maybe it’s just me.

More details are expected soon, and it’s going to be very interesting to see how KTM fans will receive this “absolute pinnacle of luxury sport touring riding” as Mattighofen described the 1290 Super Adventure. The bike will be introduced on September 30 at the Intermot show in Cologne, Germany.
