Kia’s upmarket adventure started with the K9/K900 luxury sedan and continued with the new Sorento SUV's debut in Paris last year. Now, the new Sorento enters the UK market as "the second phase of Kia’s brand transformation".
The South Korean mid-size crossover reached its third generation and UK customers can now have that in six versions, for a starting price of £28,795 ($42,361 / €39,958). It is also worth mentioning that in the UK, all versions of the Sorento will use the same 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine delivering 200 HP and 441 Nm of torque.
Not that it really matters for this type of car, but Kia says that equipped with this engine, the new Sorento can go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9 seconds, before reaching the top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph). Just make sure your kids don’t get sick if you ever happen to doubt those figures and try to see for yourself whether Kia is telling the truth or not.
The engine can be mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or an automatic transmission, with power going to all four wheels via a permanent all-wheel drive system offered as standard equipment. In addition, Kia added the Stop&Go (ISG) engine stop/start system for the first time on one of their cars, both on automatic and manual models.
The new Kia Sorento will be offered in four trim levels - KX-1, KX-2, KX-3 and KX-4 - but Kia is also offering a range of safety and assistance systems like advanced smart cruise control, blind spot detection, lane departure warning, around view monitoring and adaptive front lighting. The more upmarket KX-4 level comes with a 10-way power-adjustable seat for the driver plus an eight-way adjustable seat for the front passenger.
Customers can take the SUV’s overall design up a notch with new 17-, 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels, wheel-arch moulding, a rear spoiler and LED daytime running lights.
