2015 Kawasaki Versys 1000 Debuts at Intermot, Is Feature-Laden

Kawasaki unveiled the 2015 model year Versys 1000 machine, a bike which has received a lot of upgrades in the styling and functional departments. The 1,043cc engine is the same with the previous year model, sporting 120 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 102 Nm (75.1 lb-ft) at 7,500 revs, with the liquid-cooled in-line four mated to a 6-speed transmission via a multi-disc wet slipper clutch.

The frame has been stiffened and the tail section became stronger, now accommodating a larger payload with accessory side cases and a generous 47-liter (12.4 US gal) top case. ABS, a three-mode KTRC traction control system, Full and Low engine maps and an economical riding indicator are also part of the package, just like the toolless-adjustable windscreen.

Kawasaki’s most notable upgrades have arrived in the bodywork sector, with the whole looks of the bikes changed for the better, I’s say. The stacked headlight and the whole boxy attire was replaced by an edgier, much more aggressive design, with twin headlight and a more svelte fairing line, if a less characteristic and more “usual-looks” one.

The cast wheels require a careful approach to rougher terrain, as they’re definitely not designed to handle off-road to well, even though the ample bars would tell a somewhat different story. Both 17”wheels and wide bars are made for comfort and easy steering, and if you take a closer look at the tires, you’ll see that they will be a nightmare off the road.

Still, if a comfy bike with plenty of road-touring amenities is your thing, the 2015 Versys 1000 might just do. The price is expected to be revealed next month at EICMA, but we can tell you that the new Versys 1000 will also be sold in North America, available in Candy Burnt Orange/Metallic Spark Black, Flat Ebony/Metallic Spark Black, and Pearl Stardust White/Metallic Spark Black.

Oh, and if you’re wondering about the breathtaking scenery in the two promo videos below and the official photos, you’ll be thrilled to learn that this is Romania, with Kawasaki shooting the 2015 Versys 1000 alongside the Transfagarasan and Transalpina, two of the most scenic roads in the world. As for the jump in the lake, the guy is truly a tough fellow: it’s the Balea Lake at an altitude of 2,034 meters (6,673 ft) atop the Transfagarasan, with around a couple of months with water above freezing level. Follow the link for a cool coverstory on Transalpina, Romania's Highest Rideable Road.
