John Force Racing and the golden bowtie brand just announced they will join forces to back the 18-time NHRA Funny Car championship team starting with the 2015 season. The agreement will see all 3 of the John Force Racing Chevrolet Camaro Funny Cars wear the iconic gold bowtie, complemented by the JFR Top Fuel dragster.
Jim Campbell, VP of the Performance Vehicles and Motorsports department, declared that the iconic “John Force is a champion and a legend both on and off the track, as a driver and as a team owner. John Force is a racer’s racer and a fierce competitor, and we are excited to welcome John and his team back to Chevrolet.”

We’re not arguing with that statement. The 65-year-old American is racing since 1978. With a whopping 551 starts, 139 poles and 141 wins, John Force is also an 16-time Funny Car champ and an 18-time champion car owner. “It is great to be back with Chevrolet,” declared John Force.

“I started my career in a Chevy and my plan is to keep racing with them for many years to come. This is a great American company and we are excited about the opportunities in front of us.” John added.

Chronologically speaking, the first 60 starts of John Force’s career were behind the wheel of a Chevrolet. From 1978 to ’80 he raced a Corvette before switching to a Citation (1981-82), Camaro (1983-84), Corvette (1985) and then a Cavalier (1986). Force won the 1994 NHRA Funny Car championship racing a Chevy Lumina to a 50-8 record, 11 finals, 10 wins, and 12 No.1 qualifiers.

The man is impressive, alright, but the Funny Car is as well. We’ll have to wait ’til February 5th to actually see the blue racer during the first round of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. The event will take place at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, California, with the finals scheduled at the same venue from November 12th to 15th.
