Officially unveiled earlier today, the 2015 Jeep Renegade, the company’s first venture into the compact crossover market, was publicly introduced at the Geneva Motor Show 2014.
Built on a new 4x4 Fiat platform that will also underpin the 500X model, the Renegade blends classic, boxy Jeep exterior styling and a friendlier, Italian-inspired interior design and represents the manufacturer’s finest effort in developing a global vehicle.
Larger than the Nissan Juke and slightly longer than the Kia Soul, the 2015 Renegade has 101.2-inch long wheelbase and comes with no less than 16 powertrain combinations. Engines will include Fiat-sourced MultiAir gasoline and MultiJet II diesel units, while transmissions will consists of Chrysler’s new nine-speed automatic, two manual gearboxes and a dual-dry clutch (DDCT).
The boxy crossover promises to be a capable off-road vehicle if ordered as the Renegade Trailhawk. The range-topping 4x4 model will come with class-exclusive 20:1 crawl ratio, Selec-Terrain system, increased ride height, skid plates, all-terrain tires, Hill-descent Control and up to 1,500 kg (3,300 pound) towing capability.
Jeep says the Renegade will be loaded with up to 70 advanced safety and security features, including Forward Collision Warning, LaneSense Departure Warning, Blind-spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path detection and ParkView.
The manufacturer has yet to announce performance figures, pricing or availability or which powertrains will be offered in the United States. However, the US market Renegade is likely to be sold with the 1.4-liter MultiAir and the 2.4-liter Tigershark connected to a six-speed manual and a nine-speed automatic respectively.
