Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last week, the 2015 Renegade is Jeep’s answer to the ever growing compact SUV market. It’s the smallest vehicle the company has built so far and, in spite of its size, it promises to offer the same off-road capabilities as the rest of the Jeep lineup.
With the Renegade already on its way, the Chrysler-owned brand is looking forward to exploring new segments with brand new vehicles.
A few days ago, company chief Mike Manley said a large SUV that will revive the Grand Wagoneer nameplate is underway. It will be similar in size to the Commander, which was discontinued in 2010, and placed above the Grand Cherokee.
What’s more, Manley revealed a crossover that will be smaller than the Renegede is also under consideration, but added that such a vehicle will see the light of day only if it can be offered as an off-road capable Jeep.
“Before we do it, we’d need to know we can be capable off-road. I’m sure we could do it, but I don’t think that’s the case at the moment," he added.
Manley declined to go into specifics, so we’re only left to speculate Jeep could borrow yet another Fiat platform for it and the same MultiAir and MultiJet engines. But we have a feeling we’ll be doing that more than once over the next couple of years, so we’ll leave it like that for now.
The reason why we looked back on Manley’ statement is because a new Jeep rendering surfaced the web recently. It doesn’t represent a brand new model, but a three-door version of the 2015 Renegade. An equally interesting vehicle if you ask us, which we’d like to see in dealerships really soon.
