2015 Jaguar XJ Facelift Spied, Don’t Expect Too Many Aesthetic Changes

Peering through the models Jaguar is selling in the UK, we are offered with the new or all-new XE, F-Type and F-Pace (a crossover SUV), as well as older nameplates such as the XF and XJ. Whereas the XF will spawn a second-gen at this year’s New York Auto Show in April, the XJ will only receive a minor facelift.

As much as I want to understand what Jaguar was thinking when they named their upcoming crossover SUV the F-Pace, I certainly can’t and won’t try to comprehend why the X351-gen XJ isn’t receiving a replacement. After all, 2015 marks the sixth year of continuous production of the sleek and highly ritzy Jaguar XJ four-door luxury saloon.

Still, the XF will turn 8 this year, which is a tell-tale sign the outgoing XJ may be refreshed sometime in 2017. According to a highly placed source inside Jaguar Land Rover, the next-gen is slated to enter production in 2017. The official is adamant the 2017 Jaguar XJ will debut a brand new design language for the leaping cat brand, changing all except for the rectangular Jag grille.

’til the crispier XJ comes onto the scene, we’re dealt with an uninspiring nip & tuck job. I don’t know what director of design Ian Callum was thinking with the 2015 Jaguar XJ facelift, but it’s a huge letdown compared to the cars he penned over the years, nameplates such as the Ford RS200, Aston Martin Vanquish and DB9, as well as the Jaguar XK, XF, XJ and the super sleek F-Type.

As you can see from the spy gallery below, minor visual changes have been operated to the taillights and headlights, while the front bumper is just a tad more streamlined than before. Though we don’t expect too much, the cabin will also get a little more bang for the buck, but that’s about it for this facelift. It’s still not known if the Ingenium turbo engines will be adopted by the XJ facelift of the 2017 model.
