2015 Hyundai Veloster Facelift Scooped: Double-Clutch for Turbo

The Veloster has failed to do what Hyundai originally wanted, which is to attract younger buyers. Perhaps the lack of performance and high price are to blame, but this car has still managed to create its own niche and is getting a second chance at life.

We've been tracking the Veloster facelift prototypes which have been testing at the Nurburgring for quite a while now. However, today we have the very first piece of scoop information that actually makes sense.

The Korean Car Blog
recently received an antonymous tip that seems to reveal most of the interesting stuff we needed to know. The highlight of the report is the Veloster Turbo model, which will receive many changes in order to become competitive. Like a Golf GTI, it will be available with a twin-clutch gearbox, a 7-speed one at that.

Hyundai has already the gearbox it calls "DCT", which is short for Double Clutch Transmission, at the Paris Motor Show. Its production debut will be in February, when the Korea car company's factory will switch to Veloster Facelift production.

To better put the power from the 1.6-liter turbo engine down, wider 225/40R tires will be introduced, together with revisions to the suspension. It's not yet clear if the engine output and the six-speed manual gearbox have stayed the same, but they both should have.

Design changes

An asymmetrical small coupe designed by Koreans is never going to be to everyone's taste. But the report suggests Velosters could become a little more handsome come 2015. A new grille design will feature silver horizontal stripes, just like the Genesis flagship sedan. New colors will also be introduced, together with orange trim for the interior. How Ford Focus ST of them!
