There was a lot of information to take in when the 2015 Hyundai Sonata was unveiled at the New York Auto Show, but with the car set to go on sale this summer, Hyundai is giving us a closer look at the enhancements that were made to its second-generation Blue Link technology.
As part of the upgrades, Blue Link will be adding new features to the existing functions such as Remote Start, Maintenance Alert and the Automatic Collision Notification and SOS Emergency Assistance, but the coolest update is the new Destination Search powered by Google.

Using Google, the Sonata can help find directions through voice recognition or through the navigation system, but owners also have access to the Blue Link mobile app, which allows directions to be looked up remotely and then sent to the car.

One of the convenient features of Blue Link has always been the remote access capabilities that allow you to start the car, lock the door and find your car using your smartphone.

The new technology adds even more remote features that give users the ability to set a timer for how long the engine should run, turn the engine off, adjust the climate control (on models equipped with automatic temperature control) and even turn on the window defroster.

In the event of an accident, Blue Link has always been able to make contact with the vehicle, but now it will give drivers the ability to establish emergency contacts that can also be notified (via text message or email). This feature is also added to the SOS Emergency Assistance, and both would be useful for parents of a younger driver who could be notified immediately if the car is involved in a crash or some other emergency.

Finally, the revised Maintenance Alert now allows alerts to be displayed on the touch screen and give users the ability to set up a service appointment.

This updated Blue Link will initially debut in the Sonata before eventually spreading to the rest of the Hyundai’s lineup, and like before, it will be offered in three packages delivering varying levels of support. For 2015, these packages include Connected Care, Remote and Guidance.
