Korean carmaker Hyundai has just announced the first pricing details regarding the all-new i20 supermini hatch, which will go on sale across the UK starting Thursday, the 22nd of January.
The model starts at only £10,695 on the road, which is remarkably cheap for such a posh brand new model. Remember, this isn't a budget runabout like the Dacia Sandero. At £11,250, the basic VW Polo S is noticeably more expensive while also not matching the standard trim thrown in by Hyundai.

i20 1.2 S starts the range. The 1.2-liter four-pot is the only engine you can have on the base car and it delivers 75 hp. However you might want to avoid the base model and go for the £11,445 S Air, which comes with air conditioning. There's also a diesel version called the S Blue, which runs using a 1.1-liter 3-cylidner CRDi with 75 hp.

Further up the range, more powerful engines become available. From £12,752, the i20 SE brings more features and an 84 hp version of the 1.2-liter engine. Pay a little extra and you could also get the 100 hp 1.4 petrol engine or, from £14,725, a 1.4 CRDi with 90 hp.

The SE trim level comes equipped with 16-inch alloys, Bluetooth, cruise control with speed limiter, fog lights, Lane Departure Warning, rear electric windows and reversing sensors. The flagship i30 Premium SE models also get a heated steering wheel and front seats, sat nav and a panoramic glass sunroof.

Later on in 2015, the i20 will receive a new 3-cylinder turbo engine. Details are scarce at the moment, but it's expected that the 1-liter T-GDI will push 110 hp to the front wheels.

The i20 is a supermini competitor for the VW Polo and Ford Fiesta. It's bigger than its predecessor and thus boasts the best rear legroom and boot capacity (326 liters) in its class. That's only until the 330-liter Skoda Fabia arrives, but it's still very impressive.

Tony Whitehorn, President & CEO, Hyundai Motor UK said: “New Generation i20 is a true competitor in Britain’s most popular vehicle segment. It ticks all the right boxes for fleets and businesses, as well as catering to the needs and tastes of discerning retail customers. The quality, features and specification of this car speak for itself, and we are delighted that this has been demonstrated in the form of strong residual value predictions which are among the best in class.”
