Autonomous cars are still at least a few years away from being available to consumers, but many automakers already use self-driving technology to improve vehicle safety. The 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan is one of these cars, and Hyundai just released a video showing off its new active safety systems.
To demonstrate the Advanced Smart Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking and Lane Keeping Assist on the all-new Genesis, Hyundai headed to its California proving ground with six of the new sedans and six courageous stunt drivers. The drivers set out on the test track before engaging the technologies, but then the video gets really exciting.

Five of the six drivers proceed to climb out of the sunroof and leap onto tractor trailer chase vehicle leaving these vehicles completely driverless. The remaining driver is at the head of the pack, and he puts on a blindfold and removes his hands from the steering wheel.

All six cars then follow the tractor trailer around the track keeping a safe distance from each other and also staying in their lanes around the curving roadway. Hyundai points out that in order to orchestrate this stunt, the Lane Keeping Assist system was modified to remain on at all times.

The final portion of the stunt tests the automatic braking abilities of the 2015 Genesis with the truck coming to a sudden stop and all six cars stopping safely. Hyundai did not say how fast the cars were going for this stunt, but the automatic braking system can provide full braking at speeds ranging from 5 mph up to 50 mph and partial braking up to 112 mph.
