2015 Honda NSX Sold Out ahead of Detroit Debut - UK Customers Pleased by Prototype’s Tour

We are still a month away from the Detroit Auto Show debut of the 2015 NSX and yet Honda’s UK arm has stopped accepting pre-orders. To be more precise about the launch, while Detroit will bring us the 2015 Acura NSX, we’ll get the Honda badges at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Returning to the British market, 100 customers have already signed up for the hybrid supercar, as Autocar writes. As it often happens with such vehicles, the pre-orders have been placed despite the fact that the exact price of the NSX is still the subject of speculation - the Honda is expected to sit at around GBP75,000 (EUR95,000).

The potential clientele sampled the car during a tour Honda organized earlier this year. The prototype was present at multiple events, Goodyear Festival of Speed included.

We are delighted that so many customers have placed orders for the highly desirable NSX. We very much look forward to delivering the NSX to these customers,” Leon Brannan, the head of Honda UK’s passenger vehicle division, said.

By the way, while the Internet has made a huge fuss about the NSX prototype burning to a crisp during Nurburgring testing, this doesn’t appear to have affected the real world situation on the car.

After such a long hiatus, in what form will the NSX nameplate return?

To quote the automaker, the NSX will offer “the excitement of the [Ferrari] 458 at the price of the [Porsche] 911". Of course, such a statement sounds cool, but is rather vague. First of all, the Neunelfer is more exciting to drive than a 458 for certain people. Then there’s the financial side, as Honda didn’t mention which of the infinite range of 911s they were refering to. Perhaps the BMW i8 would be a closer rival.

Nonetheless, we know the NSX will offer a new face of Honda’s Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. This will be comprised of a twin-turbo V6 and electric motors and the powetrain will allow the driver to play with north of 400 hp.

In today’s power-obsessed world, 400 horses may not seem so much, but we have to keep a few things in mind.

In a nod to the original NSX, the new model will be a handler, not a sheer power animal. The age when the chassis alone could dictate this has passed, so the 2015 NSX will rely on the SH-AWD system, front-mounted torque vectoring electric motors included.

Moreover, the pair of turbine and the electric motors will deliver a hefty torque figure, but this remains unknown for the moment.

The supercar will be brought to the world in the US, at the Honda Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio. Oh and if you really can’t get your hands on a NSX but have the money for it, don’t fret - Honda will build a convertible version, but you’ll have to wait at least two years for it to arrive once the coupe is launched.
