Back in April, Honda unveiled the first three photos of the all-new HR-V crossover utility vehicle. We already know that the 2015 model year of the Honda HR-V is the same vehicle the Japanese call the Vezel, itself based on the Fit / Jazz subcompact hatchback. We managed to get our hands on the first spy photos of a production-ready model and have we got news for you.
After officially unveiling the 2015 Honda HR-V in the flesh earlier this year at the New York Auto Show, the global model is currently in its final testing phase before it arrives to the United States and European dealerships. This almost production-ready prototype our carparazzi spotted in the Alps marks the first time the cheeky CUV has been caught on film in Europe.
The 2015 Honda HR-V is slightly smaller than the CR-V and belongs to the segment comprising of the Buick Encore, Kia Soul, Renault Captur and Nissan Juke. The pictures depicting the car with the hood opened give us an undoubtable hint at what we already expected to propel this model - a 1.5-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder gasoline engine. As for the "VTEC kicked in, yo!" part, we're not so sure about it considering this car has a lazy automatic.
A hybrid variant will most likely come as well, but compared to the car our photographers spotted, this version gets a blueish gear knob and Honda's seven-speed Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive tranny. From the pictures depicting the cabin we can tell you that the dashboard layout is more or less the same as on the Japanese-spec Honda Vezel. But compared to the Vezel Hybrid we talked about a little while back, the Euro-spec 2015 Honda HR-V spotted doesn't get the high-end touchscreen infotainment system nor the touchscreen climate control unit.
Even though it's just a B-segment crossover, the 2015 Honda HR-V boasts lots of interior space thanks to a unique center tank layout and Magic Seat technology, which allows multiple seating configuration and the ability to fold the second row of seats completely flat. According to Honda, the next-generation HR-V will be launched sometime this winter in the States and Europe as well.
