Everybody knows that if you're a young guy, going off to college, a Honda Civic is the ideal first car. It's as cheap and well equipped as a Kia, but it's also as fun to drive as a Ford. This makes the Civic a best seller, along with its big brother the Accord midsize. But Honda has stubbornly tried to convince Americans that subcompacts are just as good.
We think that the new Fit might finally help them do that!
Revealed last autumn in Japan, the Fit has undergone small changes in order to become a North American market car for the 2015 model year. Why is this important? Because since its launch it's become the best selling car in Japan. If they think the Fit is better than a Prius or Prius c, we need to take a closer look.
First things first, there's the looks to consider. It's not a vanilla car. Strong character lines down the side are its best feature, while at the front they adopt a black plexiglass grille. There's no denying this is a Honda from any angle, though I will admit it's not as good looking as the Ford Fiesta.
The secret of the Fit is in its boot, which is one of the biggest around, and its new engine. Belonging to the Earthdreams family, a 1.5-liter producing 130 hp and 114 lb-ft has been developed for this car. Honda says this car will do an amazing 33 miles per gallon in the city, 41 on the highway and 36 on the combined cycle.
We predict Honda will need to expand the new factory in Mexico to meet demand of this new Fit. A sedan and SUV version of the Fit will also be available in about a year.
