After confirming the upcoming 2015 model year naked version of its new generation of small-displacement machine in late June, Honda has revealed photos and tech specs for the anticipated CB300F bike. The bike looks exceptionally similar to the black and white pictures that leaked from the patent application, but it looks like the machine will only be available in a red livery, according to the official online presentation.
The 2015 Honda CB300F is based on the same platform the CBR300R uses, and is powered by the stroked-out single-cylinder engine of the old quarter-liter CBR. That brings displacement to 286cc, with a 76mm bore and 63mm stroke, capable to produce around 30 hp and 27 Nm (20 lb-ft) of torque. The DOHC, 4-valve lump will be liquid-cooled and injected-fed through a 38mm throttle body. The chain final transmission is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, so nothing’s changed here.
CB300F riders will however benefit from a more upright position, which will make the bike more suitable for daily urban riding and longer hauls, as well. We don’t expect that Honda changed anything in the frame department, so we can guess that the small CBF relies on the same tubular frame as the CBR300R,the Pro-Link adjustable single shock and the 37mm fork.
Honda equipped the bike with 17” wheels, 110/70 in the front and 140/70 in the rear, while braking power comes from a single 296mm front rotor and a 220 rear single one. The wheelbase and seat height remained unchanged from the CBR, 54.3”and 30.7”, respectively (138 and 78 cm). Weight did however change, as the CB30F lost some of its plastic fairings: the faired sport bike tipped the scales at 357 lbs (161.7 kg), while the CB300F is a little lighter, with a 348 lbs (157.6 kg) curb weight.
The price was also worked on a bit: the 2015 CB300F comes with a $3,999 (€2,940) price tag, $400 (€293) lower than that of the CBR300R. The bike should make appearance in dealerships quite soon, as there is no “available from” note on Honda’s website.
