Honda announces the all-new CB125F, the successor of the CBF125, one of the best-selling eighth-liter machines in Europe. The new small-displacement Honda will be introduced this very weekend at the Motorcycle Live Show in the UK, and will be on display for the whole week.
The bike is so much more than a revamping of the old model. In fact Honda refers to the 2015 model year CB125F as an all-new model. The frame used has a new design with revised geometry and is more reactive in all riding scenarios, while providing confident handling. The wheels got bigger, and the CB125F now uses 18” cast rims as opposed to the former 17” ones. This ensures a smoother ride even on rougher roads, a thing riders will surely appreciate.

Follow in the naked trend

While naked bikes have been around since the dawn of motorcycling, they seem to become more and more fashionable once more. Europe has always been a very good market for these machines regardless of their displacement so Honda’s move to dish out a new naked bike is not at all surprising.

The upper cowl is nicely integrated with the lines of the fuel tank and adds to the compact visual impression, while the edges of the skinny bodywork emphasize the sporty looks. The headlight casing and the miniature spoiler behind which the new, aggressive instrument cluster add to this impression, as well.

Honda’s new CB125F rolls with 31mm forks and dual rear coil over spring shocks with preload adjustability. The front brake uses a 240mm double piston caliper, while the rear wheel relies on an 130mm drum.

Less power from the engine

The 2015 Honda CB125F employs an air-cooled 124.7cc single-cylinder engine with fuel injection. However, the max power and torque figures of the mill have been reduced for reasons which so far elude us. The new CB125F can only produce 10.5 horsepower compared to the 11.1 figure the (now) old model could deliver. At the same time, the 10.2 Nm (7.5 lb-ft) of torque is also lower than what the CBF125 could do.

Still, Honda says that this is not exactly a drawback, as the “strong low and mid-range torque, with excellent throttle response for smart acceleration from a standstill in urban riding. The engine’s pick up and throttle response is noticeably stronger.”

The fuel economy should however be one of the strong points for the CB125F, as the 149 mpg (1.9 l/100 km) figure and the 13-liter (3.4 US gal) tank should provide an amazing range. If you’re looking for a beginner’s all-rounder or for a really economical commuter for the warm season, and you’d rather not ride a scooter, then the 2015 Honda CB125F may be a really interesting choice.

Honda has not announced a price so far, but this is definitely going to be cleared out this weekend. The CB125F will arrive in Pearl Twinkle Yellow, Onyx Blue Metallic, Pearl Sunbeam White, and Candy Blazing Red.
