As expected Harley-Davidson revealed their all-new trike for the 2015 season, dubbed the Freewheeler. This trike kind of fills a gap in Milwaukee’s roster, as mid-sized trikes were missing, and a lot of shorter riders were obviously dreaming such a motorcycle would one day arrive.
The 2015 Freewheeler is based on the Twin Cam 103 engine packing 1,690cc of air-cooled displacement, capable to produce a very useful 142Nm (104 lb-ft) of torque and with the Cruise Drive 6-speed transmission with electrically-selected reverse, things should be pretty fine for both relaxed leisure rides and high-way hauls.

Hand-operated controls have been optimized, and the rider floorboards are complemented by a classic heel-toe shifter with a foot-operated parking brake. The passenger grab rails have been upgraded, and comfort is enhanced thanks to the air adjustable suspensions. The clutch is a modern assist&slipper unit, and it appears that the cruise control is offered as standard equipment. Harley’s funny way to advertise common things as breakthrough discoveries carries on, with the lid of Freewheeler’s trunk opening to the left being among the highlighted features… you be the judge.

Neat-looking cast aluminium wheels look really good, and the linked braking system surely adds more to the feeling of being in control, even though we expected ABS as a part of the deal, since our clocks show that we’re well into the 21st century.

Not at all sure whether deciding to actually use 4 different fonts for the Freewheeler’s badging is such a cool idea, but it will definitely appeal to some. The bike is offered in vivid black as the standard color scheme, with options available for some extra cash. In the US, the base price of the 2015 Harley-Davidson Freewheeler is $24,999 (€18,965). A lot of money for a mid-sized trike, especially in international markets, but definitely a great deal for those who have been waiting for it.
