2015 GMC Sierra Goes Full Android With a Custom Upgrade

Everybody has a mobile phone these days, so getting Android Auto and CarPlay in a car most often comes down to a simple head unit upgrade that even those less tech-savvy can do in their garages.

But on the other hand, not everybody is a big fan of the limited experience on these systems and want the full capabilities of Android and iOS, even when getting behind the wheel.

Sure, you’re obviously not recommended to use apps like Netflix and YouTube while driving. Still, on the other hand, an uncompromised mobile experience comes with its very own benefits in the car, including full access to all apps available for download.

This is why custom dash mods are so awesome. When done right, they can provide car owners with the full Android or iOS experience in a package that looks just like it’s been installed from the factory, and everybody who cares about the looks knows how important this is.

YouTuber Soundman Car Audio does such dash mods, and his most recent is aimed at the 2015 GMC Sierra. This time, the customer did not want an iPad to be installed on the dash but a Samsung Galaxy A tablet. Despite going for an Android tablet, things aren’t changing too much, as the device just slides into place and connects to the USB-C connector to recharge while in use.

The custom dash mod also includes a slot for the original screen, so theoretically, the customer can always disconnect the Galaxy tablet and stick with the factory-installed unit.

As you can see in the video embedded below and the photo gallery here, the dash mod looks as premium as it gets, so it should fit the GMC Sierra just neatly, without even giving the impression it’s an aftermarket upgrade.

At the end of the day, custom dash mods can be created for pretty much any car out there, as long as you have the right tools and the know-how to make it happen.
