General Motors has unveiled the 2015 GMC Canyon, ahead of the mid-size truck's official debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show next week.
Described as the all-new truck "that redefines the segment and raises the bar for everything from horsepower and efficiency to quietness and refinement", the Canyon joins GM's other mid-size pickup, the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado.
Just like its bowtie-badged twin, the Canyon will go on sale later this year with a choice of two engines: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder rated at 193 HP and 184 lb-ft of torque, and a 3.6-liter V6 that delivers 302 HP and 270 lb-ft of torque. A third engine, GM's 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel, will join the lineup for the 2016 model year.
To be offered in three body configurations, the 2015 Canyon is basically a smaller 2014 Sierra and features the same bold front end styling with C-shaped LED daytime running lights and projector beam headlamps. Three trim levels will be available, base, SLE and SLT, with an All-Terrain packaged to be introduced on the SLE models.
Inside, the Canyon will come with an upright instrument panel with large instruments and a central driver information center similar to the one found in the bigger Sierra, a sculpted headliner that enhances headroom and halo lighting on key controls. Other interior highlights include sculpted door panels, upper-instrument panel storage bin and rear under-seat storage.
As for connectivity, the 2015 Canyon gets a standard 4.2-inch color driver information screen in the instrument cluster, OnStar 4G LTE with built-in Wi-Fi hot spot, next-gen OnStar and IntelliLink, Siri Eyes Free Mode, Teen Driver, GMC AppShop and Navigation. Safety features include six air bags, large rearview mirrors and rear-vision camera and StabiliTrak with rollover mitigation technology, trailer sway control, hill start assist and hill descent control.
