Last week we brought you a video showing the brand new, aluminum-bodied 2015 F-150 pickup truck as it was being tested in cold weather conditions in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
The footage basically tells us that the next-generation F-150 will be capable enough to handle both snowy and icy roads and not just dry highways and muddy slopes.
But since not all Americans drive trucks, we were wondering whether or not Ford will release a similar video from the 2014 Arctic Van Challenge, where the 2015 Transit was thoroughly tested.
And here it is, the new full-size van is drifting on ice along with the Transit Connect and other European work vans in this cool three-minute video coming straight from the frozen north of Finland.
After testing the van on a frozen airfield and driving it on a rough and icy 700-kilometre route, in sub-freezing conditions, Ford concluded that the new Transit is “ready for work, whatever the weather”.
“Every one of our new Ford Transits is tested in the world’s toughest climates and driving conditions long before launch, so they are prepared for just this kind of challenge,” said Paul Randle, vehicle line director, global commercial vehicles, Ford of Europe. “Our customers depend on their Transits to get the job done, and we have made sure they are ready for work, whatever the weather.”
That sounds like excellent news for potential American customers, who will be able to purchase the 2015 Transit later this year. The European van will cross the Pond to replace the iconic E-Series and will become available in four model configurations, three roof heights and three wheelbases (from 138 to 178 inches).
Pricing info has yet to be disclosed, but until further details become available make sure you have a look at the video below. Vans might be boring most of the time, but we guarantee things are way different when their wheels spin on ice.
