After it was fully revealed through a teaser vid in November 2014, the facelifted Ford Ranger ute now returns in Wildtrak format. Only two pictures of the workhorse have been uploaded on Performance Forums, but the little batch is just enough to single out what’s in store for us.
Similarly to the 2015 Ford Ranger Double Cab 4x4 XLT, the Wildtrak spotted only recently via caradvice.com.au sports a blacked-out grille up front and a similarly black bumper and bash plate. In addition to these, the gills on the sides and mirrors also received the blacked-out visual treatment.
Although forum members hint at this fellow being a prototype of the Wildtrak, we believe that this ute is in fact a production-ready machine. Two tell-tale signs that make our argument stand are those alloy wheels and the black tape that masks the Wildtrak and 4x4 lettering on the truck’s sides.
The coolest variant of the facelifted T6 Ranger will most certainly be built at the Blue Oval’s manufacturing plant in Thailand next to the normal models, but what about the firepower that animates all four wheels of the top-spec Wildtrak? Well, no official info is available at the moment, but we have a sneaking suspicion that the engine choice is your typical carryover.
Therefore, 3.2 TDCi five-cylinder turbo diesel powerplant coupled to a six-speed manual as standard or a six-speed automatic at extra cost are offered, with 147 kW (197 horsepower) and 470 Nm of torque available. With a payload of 1,041 kg (2,295 lbs) and a town capacity of up to 3.5 tons (7,716 lbs), the 2015 Ford Ranger Wildtrak is both good looking and capable.
