Lighter than the model it replaces, the 2015 Ford Mustang is expected to deliver enhanced performance figures in terms of horsepower, top speed and 0 to 60 mph sprint. While official specs have yet to be revealed, we’ve managed to find out that Ford has increased the electronically-limited top speed on both the V6 and the V8.
According to Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak, the base 3.7-liter V6 pony will top out at 121 mph (195 km/h), which means 8 mph more compared to the current version, while the 5.0-liter V8 musclecar will be allowed to reach 155 mph (250 km/h) before the limiter kicks in.
As for the new 2.3-liter EcoBoost, Pericak said it will be limited to 121 mph, just like the V6. However, once fitted with the Track Pack, the four-potter will fly past the latter towards 145 mph (233 km/h), only 10 mph less than the V8.
“The top speeds have been increased at every level. The V8 does 155 mph, the V6 doing 121 mph, and then the Ecoboost base doing 121 mph. But the Ecoboost Track Pack will do 145 mph,” Pericak told us during an interview at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.
The 2015 Ford Mustang will become available in the fourth quarter of the year.
